American Apparel
If you can get past the greaseball/skanky image of this L.A-based t-shirt & lounge wear chain, you can actually get some great stuff here. Lots of basic styles in tons of colors. The "fine knit jersey" options are particularly soft. Best of all, this store is sweat shop free -- all the clothes are made in downtown L.A.
Women, avoid the unisex options - I've found that the sleeves, shoulders and length are sized for men.
Free shipping on $50 orders.

Alternative Apparel
This store is a lot like American Apparel, but without the skank factor. They're best known for their "burnout" tees, which come with a pre-worn, vintage feel.
The site features lots of pics of celebs wearing their stuff.
Shipping: USA (no PO Boxes) & International (select countries)

James Perse
L.A. designer James Perse is known for creating the most buttery-soft cotton tees and sweats around. Pricey but worth it.
Shipping: USA (including PO Boxes, APO/FPO & US Territories) only

Petit Bateau
Every French girl grew up wearing Petit Bateau underwear, but it wasn't until Karl Lagerfeld sent supermodel Claudia Schiffer
down the runway wearing a Petit Bateau t-shirt under a Chanel suit in the mid-90s that the brand began really buzzing.
Shipping: USA, Europe & Japan
