what are casual games?

These are games that don't require a 100-page manual just to get started. Examples include card games, casino games, arcade games, word and puzzle games and simpler mystery and management games.

how these sites work

Free Online Games - Many sites offer dozens (even hundreds) of free online games. The catch? These sites usually restrict your ability to pause, save or advance to all game levels. They may also require you to watch ads before and/or during play. If you want an unrestricted, ad-free version of the game, you'll have to pay.

Downloads - Downloads usually aren't free, but many sites offer a free trial download. If you decide to buy, you'll own the game forever. Downloads usually have better graphics and sound and more action and complexity than non-downloaded online games.

Subscriptions - Requires a monthly fee. The perks of becoming a subscriber vary from site to site. Usually, a subscription gives you unlimited, ad-free access to all the games on a site. Sometimes other perks are offered as well, such as discounts on downloads or enhanced cash/prize opportunities.
